KL Police Issue Advocacy Notices: More Awareness, Less Saman (For Now!)
KUALA LUMPUR: Okay riders, listen up! KL traffic police have been handing out advocacy notices instead of saman to motorists for minor offences. This is all part of the "Patuh Undang-Undang" campaign – basically, a chance to learn the rules before you get penalised. Think of it as a free pass... for now.

The campaign, which started on Sept 6, involves the police, DBKL (Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur), and JPJ (Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia). They're focusing on educating road users about traffic laws before slapping them with fines. It's happening along major roads in KL, so *always* be extra careful out there.
KL Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus mentioned that out of 2,784 vehicles checked, DBKL issued 24 notices, JPJ gave out 126, and 4 vehicles were towed. Make sure your rides are up to spec, geng!
"The campaign is about making sure everyone understands the rules of the road before we start issuing summonses," said Datuk Fadil Marsus.
Op Didik: Educating the Next Generation of Riders
The campaign also includes "Op Didik," targeting schoolchildren who ride motorcycles or drive. The aim? To teach them about traffic laws and road safety.
So far, 18 advocacy notices have been given to students out of 18 checked. Early education is key to creating safer riders in the future. This is good initiative for our younger generation.
Remember, this campaign will continue until further notice, after which saman WILL be issued. So, take this opportunity to brush up on your traffic laws and ride safely. No excuses!
Here's a checklist to make sure you don't get a saman later:
- Ensure your motorcycle is in good condition (lights, brakes, tyres, etc.)
- Wear a proper helmet (SIRIM approved, of course!)
- Have a valid license and road tax
- Obey all traffic laws (speed limits, traffic lights, etc.)
Ride safe, everyone!
