Tragedy in Kota Bharu: Father Shocked After Son Injured in Hammer Attack
KOTA BHARU: A seven-year-old boy, Muhammad Ammar Muhammad Badrul, is recovering in hospital after a shocking incident involving his uncle. According to Muhammad Badrul Remli, Ammar's father, the family is struggling to understand what happened. "I usually don't leave Ammar with my brother-in-law, but yesterday, he really wanted to play with his cousins," the father said, visibly shaken.

The incident has left the community reeling, especially given the father's statement about his brother-in-law's previous behavior. "He's never been aggressive, not to me, not to his own kids. That's what makes this so hard to understand," Muhammad Badrul explained at Universiti Sains Malaysia Specialist Hospital.
What Happened? A Timeline
Here's what we know so far:
- Muhammad Badrul picked up Ammar and his nephew from school around 12:40 pm.
- He dropped them off at his brother-in-law’s house before heading to work.
- Around 4:30 pm, he received a frantic call from his sister: her husband had allegedly attacked Ammar with a hammer.
- Badrul rushed to the house in Pasar Jelawat, finding his son injured in what appeared to be a storeroom.
During the incident, Ammar's aunt was reportedly asleep while her two children were playing with Ammar in the living room.
Uncle Found Dead, Aunt Arrested
The story took a darker turn when the 46-year-old uncle fled the scene on a motorcycle. His body was later discovered hanging from a tree in Pantai Melawi, about three kilometers away. Police have also arrested the victim's 36-year-old aunt to help with the investigation.
"My brother-in-law has never acted aggressively before this. He has never laid a finger on his wife or children, and he’s good with children including mine," Badrul said.
Drug Use and Hallucinations Suspected
Preliminary investigations suggest the deceased had a history of drug abuse and may have been suffering from hallucinations. This is a developing story, and we'll bring you more updates as they become available.
