Public transport usage in Malaysia at just 20% - Loke
Malaysia's Public Transport: Still Got a Long Way to Go, Boss!
Adoi! Seems like we still prefer our trusty motos and kereta, fellas. Transport Minister Anthony Loke recently said public transport usage is only at 20%. That's way below the 40% target in the National Transport Policy 2019-2030.

Loke mentioned the challenge is to make the existing transport policy achieve its goals. Maybe we need more kawtim?
Road to Rail Initiative: Good News for Lorries and Riders?
The "Road to Rail" initiative is being rolled out to boost the logistics sector. This encourages using trains for containers and goods instead of relying so much on lorries. Less lorries, maybe less traffic jam for us riders?
"When the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project is completed, it will boost the use of rail to transport goods and containers to the East Coast, thereby reducing reliance on road transport such as lorries," said Loke.
As of May 30, the ECRL project is 90% on track to be completed by December this year. Hopefully, this eases some congestion on the roads!
Why So Little Love for Public Transport?
Seriously, why aren't more of us hopping on the train or bus? Here are a few reasons riders might understand:
- Last-mile connectivity: Susah nak sampai! Gotta Grab or drive to the station anyway?
- Weather: Panas lit lit, hujan lebat... naik moto lagi best?
- Convenience: Driving your own bike gives you freedom mah.
What do you think, guys? What will it take to get more Malaysians using public transport? Let us know in the comments!
