Swift Police Action
Fortunately, the authorities were quick to respond to the public outcry. Segamat Deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Nantha Muniandy confirmed that a suspect was apprehended in Segamat on Wednesday (March 27).
According to investigations, the alarming stunt took place around 3 AM on Saturday (March 21) at KM185 of Jalan Johor Bahru-Seremban. The suspect, who reportedly has a prior criminal record (though a drug test came back negative), is now facing serious legal consequences.
Heavy Penalties Await Reckless Rider
This isn't just a slap on the wrist. The individual is being investigated under two significant acts:
- Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987: For reckless and dangerous riding, a conviction could lead to up to five years in jail and a hefty fine between RM5,000 and RM15,000.
- Section 286 of the Penal Code: For negligent conduct with explosive substances, this offense carries a penalty of up to RM2,000 in fine, up to six months imprisonment, or both.
